A personal insurance plan protects your furniture, clothes, sports equipment and other personal items if they are stolen or destroyed by fire, hurricane or other insured disasters. The coverage is generally 25-75 percent of your dwelling limit.
Expensive items such as jewelry, furs, art, collectibles and silverware are covered under personal policies as well, but there are usually dollar limits if they are stolen. To make sure these items are covered to their full value, we recommend purchasing a special personal property endorsement or floater and insure the item or items for the officially appraised value.
Liability protection covers you against lawsuits for bodily injury or any property damage you or the residents of your household may cause to another individual.
Loss of use coverage pays the additional costs of living away from your home if you cannot live there due to damage from a covered loss. Most policies include a time limitation on these benefits. However, these limits are separate from the amount that is available to rebuild or repair your house.
